Movie Personalities at The Times of India’s Literary Carnival, Mumbai

Following is a list of movie personalities who will be participating at the “Mumbai Fully Booked, The Times of India’s Literary Carnival”. The literary festival will take place at Mehboob studio in Mumbai, from December 2 to 4.

Mira Nair - Indian director of Salaam Mumbai, The Namesake, at The Times of India’s Literary CarnivalMira Nair is probably the most famous (and talented) Hollywood moviemaker of Indian origin. Mira Nair’s first movie was “Jama Masjid Street Journal”, which was her thesis project at Harvard. She made her commercial directorial debut in 1988, with Salaam Bombay, which was based on a homeless boy in Bombay. Mira Nair is married to Columbia University professor Mahmood Mamdani. She is currently filming “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” based on the book by Mohsin Hamid.

She has collaborated with her fellow Harvard buddy, Mira Nair, on Salaam Bombay, Mississippi Masala and The Namesake. She made her directorial debut with “Little Zizou”. Ms Taraporewala has also published an important book on the India’s Parsi Zoroastrian community, titled “Parsis: the Zoroastrians of India – A Photographic Journey”.

Akshat Varma - Script writer of Delhi Belly, at The Times of India’s Literary CarnivalHe is the immensely talented scriptwriter of the Indie hit “Delhi Belly”. In addition to writing the script for Delhi Belly, Akshat Varma was also the Assistant Director and lyricist of the movie. This California educated movie maker has now settled for a movie career in Mumbai. Akshat also has writing honors for the 2008 movie “The Ode” which is based on a gay Indian in Hollywood.

Zoya Akhtar - Writer, director of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Luck By Chance, at The Times of India’s Literary CarnivalProducer, writer, lyricist and director who, with the success of “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”, has completely come out of the shadow of her famous father (Javed Akhtar), mother (Honey Irani) and brother (Farhan Akhtar). Zoya made her directorial debut with “Luck By Chance”. Her last directorial venture was the hit movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”. Zoya is current working as co-writer, with Reema Kagti, on the Aamir Khan starrer Talaash.

Ayan Mukherjee - Director of Wake Up Sid and Kajol's cousin, at The Times of India’s Literary Carnival28 year old Ayan Mukherjee won the Filmfare award for “Best Debutante Director” for “Wake Up Sid”. Ayan also wrote the screenplay for Swades. Ayan has movies in his genes. His father is the Bengali actor Deb Mukherjee, his uncle is actor Joy Mukherjee, his aunt is Tanuja, and Kajol, Tanisha and Rani are Ayan Mukherjee’s cousins. He is also Ashutosh Gowariker’s brother-in-law. Ayan’s next film is the Ranbir Kapoor- Deepika Padukone starrer, “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani”.

Anurag Kashyap - Director, writer, roducer, actor, at The Times of India’s Literary CarnivalAnurag is arguably the most famous present day Indie/Alternative movie maker in India. His experimentation and movie subjects are hard hitting. Ever new movie is eagerly anticipated. Anurag wears multiple hats – director, writer, producer and actor. This zoology graduate from Delhi University was heavily influenced by Vitorio de Sica’s Bicycle Thieves. Anurag’s college years and his first 10 years in Mumbai make for fascinating reading and give some insight into the movie maker that he has turned into. Anurag Kashyap is married to actress Kalki Koechlin and his younger brother, Abhinav Kashyap, is a much sought after director after the super hit Dabangg.
